A web about organizing the first Transhackmeeting in Pula
As I cannot send mails from my job, I'll try to describe the situation with the power in the building because this can generate problems...

The thk place is a huge old military barracs located in the center of town but with the power net almost as old as the building wink

We have (for the moment) 5 main rooms for the thk activities (four of them large cca 150 m2 and one smaller with 30 m2). we'll ask other organizations from the Roytz building to share more rooms with us...

Rooms have only few plugs but this can be solved with extending cables. the problem is that all plugs in the room are connected to one fuse with 16 A (the current in croatia is 220V 50Hz - german style plugs) so the max power in the room cannot be more than cca 3,5kW. In our Hacklab we have all ten computers connected to one plug... and it's working. wink

This could be a problem but we (Monte Paradiso crew) will work on this and solve it. For our festival use main power box with a fuse of 80A (in the basement of the building). If needed we can buy some cable and connect rooms with that box!

Three of this rooms are connected with one UTP cable and others have no LAN yet.

Bring with you as much material as you can. We have 8 Durons at 800mhz, 1 dual P3, two old Sun4 sparc and 15 old 486...

We'll surely need a lot of network cable, few lcd projectors and some switches.

Here are a couple of things that normaly i didn't see in the hackmmeting and it's very important give support like:

* DNA: Domain Name Anarchy: can have the intranet of the thm this organization?

* P2P? : in the place of use the clasic FTP to share information betwen the people of the event, we can mount a server of P2P? where the people can have acces to the files of the other people without know the procedence.

* W.O.M.A.N. A small copy of a metropolitan wireless network of a city with the posibilities that this can have: P2P? , videoconference, voip...

What hardware do we need to bring for the net?

switches, cables, pcs??

Edgar's responce was:

Anything you think it is needed. We have here a 16 port and an 8 port switch, and a 16 port hub. About 50 meters of utp, 14 working pcs, about 16 486s (not in use, but guess they work), 3 linksys wrt54g ap/routers, a wireless infrastructure on Buffalo WLA-G54. That's it.

How about a Wireless Meshcloud?

We are using the OLSR (http://www.olsr.org) protocol with much success in Berlin on the Wizards of OS conference right now. I think it will work nicely in Pula too. No accesspoint needed, installation is pretty trivial. (of course we can have a few accesspoints too, but this saves some wiring).
