A web about organizing the first Transhackmeeting in Pula

All your money.. (the facts)

In nightly sessions during and before the meeting Ricola, Decay and Meinhard did the accounting, hidden away in dark back offices. Here are the results of this sinister French-German exchange:

  • we raised 1056 Euros through food, t-shirts, the bar, donations and tea
  • we spend 614 Euros on food, electrics, keys, booze and salsaman
  • this leaves us 442 Euros to share

..are belong to us (ideas on how to spend the money)

  • give money to the people that got stuff stolen
  • give money to the MP hacklab
  • save money for the next THK

See all the details in the attached OOo file.

1. I'm AGAINST the idea to refund stolen people with money donated for other reasons

  • because we had already taken our part of responsibility for what happened, and now 'stolen individuals' have to take theirs (for bringing valuable stuff to the THk and/or for not (self)organizing an efficient secure zone(s) -- IfkePhasianus? - 29 Jun 2004
    • BuckRogers? : The THK safe deposit was initially planned in the small rehearsal room inside the Old MP Club and has been moved to the security office at the entrance of the building. Some people left their stuff there. Sorry that this has not been communicated well enough.

2. IMHO the best thing would be to pass the money to the Mphacklab because it is too little to refund the damaged people, too little for keeping it for a year or more for the next THK, but it would make a great difference for the hacklab in Pula (at least for the printer, etc...). Yes, I'm not impartial, so I'm waiting for better suggestions from the others. -- EdgarBursic? - 29 Jun 2004

  • BuckRogers? : Considering that we spend 550 Euros for everything at THK04, the remaining 500 are a whole lot of money. And if the Istanbul plans work out, it's worth at least double. wink I still think we should split it in parts. How about 250 for the MP HL (that should buy a half-decent printer) and 250 as a start-up help for THK05?
  • EdgarBursic? : I wrote that 500 euros won't be kept for a year (but I think at least 2 years will pass for the next THK, considering that 3 years were needed for this one). The money shouldn't be for buying a printer, since we have one, but for the paper and a new cartridge since a lot of people used it. 250 euros are OK in any case.
  • Another argument is that if the organiyation of a THK needs so little money it will be collected again on a different location and the leftover money will improve the conditions of that other location. Hackmeetings usually bring wealth to the places where they take place.
  • Actually much more money is needed for tHK. For example the cost of the t-shirts was 800 euros, and in the remote case that none bought any there would be a lack of 800 euros in Ivicas pocket. (there are a lot of other examples of that kind)
  • I think it wisest and most practical choice for MPHL to get the 500 EUR - they need it now and i trust them to spend it well. I'm sure they will bring their energy forward again to help make the next THK happen (wherever, whenever), and that should be worth more than the 250 EUR to us. - LukaFrelih?

3. I support both statements. 'Damaged' people have been partially compensated now, and imho it is logical that any modest amount of extra money remains with the local organisation, and this one did a great job! -- PatriceRiemens? - 29 Jun 2004 [edited by BuckRogers? - 2 Jul 2004]
